Concussion rehabilitation is perhaps the most emergent science in rehabilitative medicine. We recognize a concussion and understand the physiology of injury and of recovery better now than we did just 5 years ago. When the goal is to return to the athletic field, concussion rehabilitation is complicated by the myths, the motivations (athlete, coaches, parents), and the unique notion of returning a patient back to a potentially threatening environment requiring a very high level of skill to be safe, much less to perform. In this webinar, we will use evidence in concussion rehabilitation to tackle these complications in an effort to help clinicians navigate the recovery protocol and decision-making processes toward an optimal outcome and timely return. Persistent non-vertiginous dizziness can be a prominent disabling complaint following a concussion. While treatment techniques of habituation, adaptation, and substitution are well established, many individuals with post-concussion syndrome suffer from additional psychological and cognitive impairments. Traditional vestibular rehab techniques are often ineffective and occasionally counterproductive in dealing with these individuals. The intent of this course will be to provide rehabilitation professionals specific tools to better treat and manage patients who exhibit primary impairments of somatosensory/vestibular processing deficits, dual task intolerance and autonomic nervous system maladaptation. We will present the latest evidence regarding the use of dual task techniques, sensory facilitation and integrative relaxation techniques. Through case applications, we will present a framework to successfully identify individuals that will benefit from this expanded toolbox based on their history and examination, and clear examples of progressing interventions and measuring progress. Proper dosage to ensure tolerance and sufficient training to optimize recovery will be reviewed. The content of this course is appropriate for the PT, PTA and AT.

This course will discuss the development process of the most recent international concussion consensus statements. Specific recommendations based on the 12 accompanying systematic reviews will be highlighted. This course challenges what we know of function in three planes of motion from the foot to the head related to common orthopedic conditions that are a result of a breakdown of the kinetic chain focusing on the cause of pain versus symptoms. This class will challenge you to perform self assessment of balance, mobility, stability, and function in three planes of motion to assist in the understanding of function from the foot to the head using a cause and effect methodology. This is part 2 of a two-part series concentrating on functional exercise and treatment.

The main idea of the course is to provide strategies for physical therapy professionals to not only help their patients identify their obesity is directly linked to their ability to recover, but also provide guidance for physical therapy professionals with developing a treatment plan that will assist with the patient's acute injury and comorbidity. This course is specifically designed for PTs and PTAs licensed in the state of Tennessee. Physical therapists make ethical decisions on a daily basis. In routine clinical practice PTs and PTAs are also faced with tough situations known as ethical dilemmas. Understanding bioethics and the APTA Code of Ethics can help therapists make decisions regarding ethical issues in an informed way. Models of ethical decision making will be presented and clinical examples analyzed. Upon taking this course therapists will more readily recognize the ethical makeup of their clinical practice and feel more confident in their ethical decision making.
