An introduction to brachial plexus birth injury or brachial plexus injury at birth and therapy's role. This course will discuss the initial injury, assessment, treatment, family education, and the importance of connecting families with a multidisciplinary care team. This presentation will primarily focus on assessment and treatment within an inpatient model (birth centers, acute care, and neonatal intensive care unit).

Laura Koegst graduated with a master’s degree in occupational therapy from Ithaca College. She has practiced as a pediatric occupational therapist for 10 years and focused her professional career on the inpatient setting with specialized certifications within the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). She has taken special interest in neurological development of neonates, family-centered care and infant feeding. She is a certified neonatal therapist in the care of the extremely low birth weight neonate and neonatal touch & massage certified.
