PTs and PTAs in the state of GA are required to complete a 4 hour course on jurisprudence and ethics for license renewal. This online text-based home study course reviews the jurisprudence and ethics components as outlined by the Georgia Board of Physical Therapy and is applicable for PTs and PTAs licensed in the state of Georgia.
The Georgia State Board of Physical Therapy will only accept ethics and jurisprudence courses approved by the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia (PTAG) and by colleges and universities with CAPTE-accredited programs (refer to Board Rule 490-4-.02(2)(a).
Learning Outcomes
- After this course, participants will be able to list basic principles of ethics and their application to rehabilitation and physical therapy.
- After this course, participants will be able to identify codes of ethics that govern discipline-specific therapy practice.
- After this course, participants will be able to describe ethics in healthcare and professional licensing, including that which is considered unethical and/or unlawful by credentialing boards.
- After this course, participants will be able to discuss procedures for analyzing ethical dilemmas in healthcare.
- After this course, participants will be able to analyze ethical dilemmas through case scenarios to illustrate how to apply a Code of Ethics to real-world issues.
- After this course, participants will be able to identify ethical issues commonly experienced in healthcare settings.
- After this course, the participant will be able to identify at least two sources of law that govern physical therapy practice in Georgia.
- After this course, the participant will be able to discuss the clinical scope of practice for PTs and PTAs licensed in Georgia by reviewing the Georgia State Practice Act.
- After this course, the participant will be able to list at least three continuing competency requirements for PTs and PTAs licensed in Georgia.
- After this course, the participant will be able to identify at least three statutes that affect the practice of physical therapy in Georgia.
- After this course, the participant will be able to describe how to review the FAQs and navigate the board's website.
- After this course, the participant will be able to identify at least two regulations on the practice of physical therapy in Georgia and identify the location of the GA policy statements.
- After this course, the participant will be able to describe at least two roles of the Board of Physical Therapy in the practice of physical therapy in Georgia.
