This course provides an up to date literature review on guidelines for the management and treatment options for post-concussion syndrome. Participants should expect to receive a clear understanding of manual and exercise interventions as well as communication skills necessary to facilitate patients’ safe and expedited return to activity and sport after traumatic head and neck injury. This course is directly related to the practice of physical therapy and athletic training and is therefore appropriate for the PT, PTA and AT.

- The participant will be able to define concussion and post-concussive syndrome, cervicogenic headache and pain.
- The participant will be able to identify at least three red flags that may be associated with post-concussion symptoms.
- The participant will be able to describe how to assess athletes for readiness for return to play.
- The participant will be able to identify pathophysiology and anatomy of cervical and neural components involved in post-concussion syndrome.
- The participant will be able to describe at least three components of performing and applying clearance testing of the cervical spine prior to manual treatment (SCATT, Vertebral Artery, Flexion Rotation Test, etc).
- The participant will be able to identify at least three manual and therapeutic exercise techniques appropriate specific to post-concussion syndrome.
- The participant will be able to will be able to describe at least three patient techniques observed by video/photos and be complete goal setting based on case study.

Rene’e James grew up in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. She attended North Dakota State University receiving a B.S in Exercise Science. She then attended University of Minnesota for her masters in physical therapy graduating in 2002. Sports, injuries, surgeries and rehabilitation have guided her to study and love physical therapy. Bailey Denno
PT, DPT
Bailey Denno grew up in Tangent, Oregon on her families' farm. She attended Pacific University receiving a B.S. in Exercise Science. She then attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas receiving her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and graduated in December 2011. Bailey's observation of PT pediatrics, work hardening, out-patient sports rehab, and her work for Providence as lead Aide for the west side of Portland evolved her love of physical therapy and all it can provide to patients. Bailey is an out-patient based orthopedic therapist who has most of her continuing education in functional manual therapy enabling her to treat spine and extremities and post-op orthopedic injuries with manual and PNF focus.
