This session will describe classifications of urinary incontinence, treatment and education to initiate in any physical therapy setting, and when to refer to a specialist. Constipation and pelvic organ prolapse will be addressed and its affects on urinary incontinence. Finally, patient care case studies will be presented that will help the learner with problem-solving how to incorporate pelvic floor interventions into their treatment plans, along with appropriate goal writing. The content of this course is directly related to the practice of physical therapy and is therefore appropriate for the PT and PTA.

Nicole Sadeghi is an acute care therapist and pelvic floor physical therapist at Beaumont Health, — Troy Hospital, and pelvic floor physical therapist at Novi DPT in Michigan. She is a guest lecturer, proctor, and teacher assistant at Oakland University in Rochester Michigan. She received her undergraduate and masters in Physical Therapy at Wayne State University. Nicole received continuing education in the area of of pelvic floor disorders through Herman and Wallace Pelvic Floor Institute, International Institute Hypropressive Physical Therapy, and Beaumont Health. Her primary focus is incorporating pelvic floor therapy within the acute and inpatient rehabilitation settings, as well as outpatient. Nicole is passionate about the field of pelvic floor rehabilitation and strives to educate staff, patients, and physicians on the growing need for pelvic floor therapy. She has received her clinical training at St. John Health and Beaumont Health where she has helped in developing pelvic programs in both outpatient and Inpatient Rehabilitation.
