Physical activity is established as an important therapy in the prevention and management of diabetes and diabetes-related health comorbidities. This course reviews new guidelines related to physical activity for improving glucose control and cardiovascular health in people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and highlights ways to apply these guidelines in different physical therapy cases. This course is directly related to the practice of physical therapy and is therefore appropriate for the PT and PTA.

Gina Pariser, PT, LDE, PhD
Gina Pariser received her BS in Physical Therapy from Louisiana State University and her PhD in Exercise Science from the University of Tennessee. She is a professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Bellarmine University, Louisville, KY. Her clinical experience focuses on physical therapy management of patients with diabetes and health co-morbidities that limit their mobility and capacity for exercise. She developed a diabetes self-management program for people with diabetes and mobility impairments called Active Steps for Diabetes. The program is an academic-community service-learning program involving Bellarmine and community entities that provide health care for populations at high risk for diabetes. She has received grants for research related to the program, published her work, and has presented on this topic at national conferences.
