Breast cancer and its associated treatments frequently result in physical impairments and functional limitations that affect survivorship and quality of life. This course will review breast cancer, its treatments, common sequelae, and the evidence-based physical therapy approaches to assessing and treating breast cancer survivors. This course is directly related to the practice of physical therapy and is therefore appropriate for the PT/PTA.

- Participants will be able to identify at least three evidence-based outcome measures that are recommended to use for breast cancer survivors.
- Participants will be able to identify at least three evidence-based interventions for shoulder impairment secondary to breast cancer treatment.
- Participants will be able to outline at least two characteristics of patients who may be at increased risk of falls due to their history of breast cancer and treatment.
- Participants will be able to list at least five strategies to minimize the risk of breast cancer-related lymphedema.

Stephen Wechsler, PT, DPT
Dr. Steve Wechsler is a Physical Therapist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s outpatient Sillerman Center for Rehabilitation in New York City. Dr. Wechsler currently serves as the Secretary for the Academy of Oncologic Physical Therapy, APTA. In recognition of his efforts and participation in the APTA, Dr. Wechsler was awarded a 2017 APTA Emerging Leader Award, and in 2019, he received the President's Award for his efforts within the Academy of Oncologic PT. He has lectured locally and nationally on the topic of oncologic rehabilitation.
