Foundation for Physical Therapy
The mission of the Foundation for Physical Therapy is to fund and publicize research that determines the scientific basis and value of services intended to optimize physical functioning by physical therapists, and to develop the next generation of researchers.
Over the last 37 years, the Foundation has provided more than $17 million in funding to launch and fund the careers of over 583 physical therapist researchers. New data has shown that Foundation supported researchers have gone on to receive an estimated $755 million in funding from a variety of sources including the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Veterans Administration, and the National Science Foundation.
Many of today’s leading and emerging physical therapist researchers, clinicians and academicians began their careers with a grant or scholarship from the Foundation. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded 399 scholarships, 21 fellowships, and 457 grants.
More than 9,000 research papers and articles contributing to evidence-based practice have been published in professional journals by the alumni of the Foundation.
