Happy National Physical Therapy Month, fellow Physical Therapists and Assistants!
National Physical Therapy Month has been celebrated in October every year for over 30 years. The purpose of the month is to bring awareness to the general public the role a physical therapist provides in improving heath/wellness, restoring function and improving quality of like to individuals in their care.
Perhaps this year is even a little more important. As some of you may know, the APTA adopted a rather large goal in its newest vision statement. It reads: “Transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience.”
To accomplish this goal, we need to work as a cohesive group educating the public on our abilities and, even more importantly, educating one another. It is by having great outcomes that we will be able to educate other professions and the public with ease. Take time this year to mentor a new employee or new student. Discuss current research, start a journal club and become active in learning evidence-based approaches to physical therapy care. If we keep our knowledge to ourselves or limit whom we educate, only a small amount of patients will benefit; if we educate others without restrictions, there is no limit to who or how many we can potential reach.
PhysicalTherapy.com has taken the first step in educating without restrictions by offering FREE access to all courses. If you haven't done so already, please tell your colleagues.
Finally, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, we are pleased to offer two upcoming live webinars on cancer related issues.
November 21, 2013 - Evidence for Exercise in Breast Cancer Survivors
December 19, 2013 - Evidence for Exercise in Cancer Related Fatigue
Join us for those two courses and others on the live schedule. If you are unable to attend a live webinar, the course will always be found in a recorded format within the week after the live course.
