If a patient leaves a facility over midnight for an admit to the hospital and then returns to the facility the next day, are you required to start over, i.e. a discharge and evaluation? On what day do you start when they return?
Answer
You say that they were out of the facility over midnight for an admit to the hospital. If they were actually admitted to the hospital and not just in for observation, even if it was just for one night, we have to discharge everything. Then, on the day they come back to the facility, even if it the next morning, we do an evaluation or in therapy we could do a reevaluation. We start back on day one. We also start over with the five-day assessment.
