Question

Regarding the Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass, is it correct that the mortality rate has come down?

Answer

Yes.  The mortality rate has come down.  The rate used to be closer to one percent.  It was about .98% for many years.  It is now down to .05%.  That is a huge difference.  The American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery  is very strict about who is able to do these procedures.  Not every surgeon is allowed to do them.  You must have specialized privileges to perform the surgery.
