Answer

The Schroth Method is a conservative, physiotherapy-based approach to scoliosis management that centers on three main components: specific manual (passive) mobilization techniques, individualized corrective exercises, and postural training. This method is highly patient-centered, with treatment plans tailored to each individual's unique curve pattern and functional needs. Exercises are designed to achieve three-dimensional correction of the spine and trunk, focusing on elongation, derotation, and stabilization. Corrective breathing is a key element, used to mobilize the ribcage and improve chest function. The method also incorporates proprioceptive and motor learning strategies to help patients gain awareness and control over their posture and movement, aiming to slow or prevent curve progression and improve quality of life.

Current research, including randomized controlled trials and systematic reviews, supports the effectiveness of the Schroth Method in managing adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Studies have shown that Schroth-based exercises can help slow or prevent curve progression, improve trunk symmetry, enhance postural awareness, and increase chest mobility and function. The method is recognized as evidence-based, with its principles and techniques continuously updated in response to new scientific findings. While bracing is only effective during growth, the Schroth Method can benefit both adolescents and adults by improving muscle balance, posture, and quality of life, even if significant curve reduction is less likely in adults.
