This series will cover the indications for imaging and the interpretation of imaging results into the primary care physical therapy as well as daily decision making by physical therapists for those persons presenting with apparent neck and back pain clinical syndromes. The sessions will provide the essential information of physical therapist practice relating to imaging both present and in the future.
Editor's Note: Regarding Pennsylvania credits, this course is approved by the PA State Board of Physical Therapy for 2.5 hour of general and 2.5 hour of Direct Access CE credit.

Learning Outcomes
- Recognize the attributes of patients particularly at risk for possible serious pathologies and requiring an increased index of suspicion for health conditions potentially beyond the scope of physical therapy care, including the need for imaging.
- Describe how to integrate and weight imaging results and clinical examination findings toward achieving a physical therapy differential diagnosis or classification.
- List the properties of the commonly used imaging modalities (radiography, CT, MRI, bone scan, ultrasound) in detecting or ruling out particular disease processes and fractures in patients.
- Recognize incidental findings, anatomical variants, and lifespan phenomena often present on imaging and their relevance to clinical presentations and prevalence in asymptomatic individuals.
- Describe how to access and utilize decision guidelines relevant to screening and imaging.
