This course will present an overview of the development of postural control from a perception action perspective. The role of motor and sensory experience in the development of postural control and specifically postural control variability will be highlighted. The implications of the new body of evidence for clinical assessment of postural control in the first year of life will be discussed. The second portion of the course will focus on interventions to advance postural control during the first year of life. The role of early postural control experience in the development of motor behaviors will be discussed. Evidence and theoretically based interventions for improving postural control in infant with or at risk for developmental delays will be highlighted.
