This presentation will guide participants through the functional expectations for clients with spinal cord injuries followed by information on how to alter and adapt treatment approaches for the clients with a dual diagnosis of a spinal cord injury and brain injury based on their cognitive needs. Participants will also gain exposure to pieces of equipment used in dual diagnosis recovery for optimal functional independence.

Elizabeth Pike, PT, DPT, NCS
Elizabeth graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2011 from University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill. Elizabeth worked for a year in an outpatient focused clinic prior to entering a neurological residency with Mercer University- Shepherd Center. During the residency year, Elizabeth worked with both brain injury and spinal cord injury clients in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. Upon completion of the residency, Elizabeth obtained her Neurological Clinical Specialist Certification in March of 2014. Elizabeth currently works as an outpatient physical therapist in the Day Program spinal cord injury rehabilitation unit at the Shepherd Center, a model center for spinal cord and brain injury rehabilitation.
Danielle C. Bonner, PT, DPT, NCS
Danielle Bonner, PT, DPT, NCS graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2010 from Armstrong Atlantic State University, and has practiced at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia since 2010. Danielle has consistently worked in the inpatient acquired brain injury rehabilitation unit at Shepherd Center, focusing on rehabilitation of patients with traumatic brain injuries, brain tumors, strokes, neuromuscular diseases and dual diagnosis spinal cord injuries with brain injuries. Danielle is currently the Inpatient Acquired Brain Injury float physical therapist, where she treats patients with a variety of neurological injuries in both the acute and post-acute settings along with assisting in new therapist training. While working at Shepherd Center, Danielle has served as the NeuroResidency mentor on inpatient brain injury rehabilitation along with presenting on a number of topics. Danielle obtained her Neurological Clinical Specialist Certification in March of 2014. Danielle is an active member of the Neurology Section of the APTA and the Neurology SIG of PTAG.
