Course Abstract

The goal of this presentation is to provide the participant with current Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Prospective Payment System (PPS) 2011 regulations pertaining to the provision of therapies in Home Health. The regulations clearly state that objective test measures need to be included in assessment/reassessments and documented in the medical record to determine effectiveness of the interventions being provided. This course is part of a 3 part series. Part 1 will review the requirements mentioned above. Part 2 and 3 will provide the participant with objective test measures based on evidence-based practice; provide tools for development of competency programs related to these tests and continuing competence programs related to lifelong learning.

Kenneth L Miller, PT, DPT

Kenneth L Miller, PT, DPT is the clinical educator for Catholic Home Care, where he provides staff development, continuing education and training following best practice and evidenced-based practice. He is an adjunct instructor and guest lecturer at Touro College’s, Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, in Bay Shore, NY. He has published numerous articles in the “The Quarterly Report” publication of the Home Health Section and “GeriNotes” publication of the Section on Geriatrics on evidenced-based practice relating to bone health, heart failure, cancer, balance, dizziness and vestibular rehabilitation. Dr Miller has published his doctoral research on balance and falls training in the home in the Journal of Geriatric Physical Therapy. He is a member of the Editorial Board of GeriNotes and a manuscript reviewer for JGPT.

He is a member of the Practice Committee for the Section on Geriatrics of the APTA and also co-chairs the Practice Committee for the Home Health Section of the APTA. Dr Miller has had a poster presentation at the Combined Sections Meeting in Nashville and has presented educational sessions at the Combined Sections Meeting in New Orleans and Chicago. Diana L Kornetti, MA, PT, HCS-D, COS-C

Diana (Dee) Kornetti, MA, PT, HCS-D, COS-C, a physical therapist for 26 years, is the administrator and co-owner of Integrity Home Health Care, Inc. – a locally owned and operated Medicare-certified home health agency in Central Florida. Dee is nationally recognized as a speaker in the areas of home care, standardized tests and measures in the field of physical therapy, therapy training and staff development in the home health arena. Dee has presented at numerous state and national home care association meetings, for private agencies across the country, as well as her recent role as consultant for a home care software provider. She is an active member in good standing with her professional organization, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) since 1986, and its Geriatric, Cardiopulmonary and Home Health specialty sections. Dee is the current editor of the American Physical Therapy Association’s (APTA) Home Health Section quarterly newsletter, the co-chairperson of its Practice Committee and Toolbox Task Force coordinator, a member of the Board of Medical Specialty Coding’s (BMSC) Panel of Experts, and is frequently a speaker at Decision Health conferences, webinars and audioconferences.

Dee received her B.S. in physical therapy from Boston University’s Sargent College of Allied Health Professions, and her M.A. from Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ. She has completed over 50-credit hours toward her Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Florida. Dee’s clinical focus throughout her years of practice has been in the area of gerontology and neurological disease rehabilitation. She opened her agency, Integrity Home Health Care, Inc. with the desire of becoming a prototype of what health care should be - a local employer of choice for health care professionals and a source of information and support for community-dwelling older adults.
