Course Abstract

This activity will provide an overview of ethical challenges that can present in the supervisory relationship including power differential, confidentiality, vicarious liability, dual relationship, and informed consent. Information will be provided on the importance of the supervisory relationship and the importance of individual differences. Strategies will be provided to address possible ethical issues.

Wren Newman, SLP.D, CCC-SLP

Wren S. Newman, SLP.D., CCC-SLP is Executive Director for the Programs in Speech-Language and Communication Disorders at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was named a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in 2006.

Dr. Newman is currently a member of ASHA’s Board of Ethics. She has previously served on the Academic Affairs Coordinating Committee of ASHA, as the Coordinator of Special Interest Group 11 – Administration and Supervision, and on the Ad Hoc Committee on Supervision in Speech-Language Pathology.
